The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) cleared Nike's 285 million pounds takeover of England football kit-maker Umbro.
According to the OFT, it has decided that the takeover raised "no competition concerns in any market".
Nike and Umbro overlap in the supply of sports footwear and athletic apparel. Although the pair have a high combined market share of over 45%, the OFT found that this overstates the rivalry between them.
The OFT also ruled out concerns that allowing Umbro to come under Nike's control would make price-fixing or other collusion between the companies' rivals more likely post-merger.
Umbro has supplied the England football team's kit for more than 20 years.
