Mayawati, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has recently announced that as a tribute to late Kanshi Ram, BSP leader, a new district Kanshi Ram Nagar, will be formed, with Kasganj as the headquarter.

The CM also plans to set up a 'Shoe Mandi', a wholesale market to boost the sale of leather products, in Agra. The footwear costing upto Rs300 will be free from all kinds of taxes in this bazaar.

This initiative of setting up a shoe market will generate employment in the Agra and would provide an opportunity for the local craftsmen to showcase their products to a wide range of customers.

The city is renowned for its footwear in the country and abroad, it has nearly 200 shoe manufacturing units, that account for almost half of the entire nation's strength.
